Frequently asked questions
The questions people ask most before they start a recoat business with FloorIt, with straight answers.
The program
Is this a franchise?
No. There's no franchise fee, no royalties, no revenue share and no brand ad fund. The business is yours, in your name. You own everything we build. If you ever stop working with us, there's no penalty and nothing to buy your way out of. And it's backed by the 30-Day Action-Taker Guarantee.
Is this just a course?
No. There's a full course, from your first 30 days to hiring your first tech, plus live classes. But you don't buy it and figure it out alone. We help you set up the business, get your equipment to you, and teach you to run the marketing.
Can someone else get my area?
No. One partner per area. Your area starts at 30 miles around you, and once it's yours it's off the market.
What does it cost? Can I finance it?
We go over the exact investment on your call, built around your market. You can pay in full, split it, or finance. Financing starts with a soft credit check that doesn't affect your score.
Can I keep my job while I start?
Yes. Two jobs a week is roughly 8 to 10 hours, including estimates and driving, which is why a lot of people start alongside what they already do.
The work
Do I need flooring experience?
No. The job is a process: screen the old finish, vacuum and tack, roll on a fresh coat with a roller on an extension pole. The training breaks every step down on video, and the live classes are there for your questions.
Is it sanding? Is it physically hard?
No sanding to bare wood. A buffer dulls the old finish so the new coat grips. One person can do the whole job, it's indoor work, and there's no heavy drum sander to drag around.
What do you put on the floor?
FloorIt Two-Part Finish, a two-part, water-based urethane. It's a proprietary mix manufactured by ProCoat, a family-owned company in Cabot, Arkansas, made in the USA. Part A is the finish, Part B is a crosslinker you mix in on the job. It hardens chemically and bonds to the screened floor, so it becomes part of the old finish instead of sitting on top. It goes on clear, won't yellow, cleans up with water and has a mild odor. On regularly maintained floors, the manufacturer puts it at 20+ years.
Why can't I just buy this at the store?
The store sells polish and one-part poly. Polish is a film that sits on top of the floor. It softens, scuffs and peels, and has to be stripped off later. One-part poly has no hardener, so it stays softer and chips. And neither comes with the prep, the buffer or the training to put it down right.
What equipment do I need?
A buffer, the applicator kit and the finish. We send you 12 gallons of finish, the prep products and the cleaner you leave with every homeowner, and the applicator kit (9-inch roller, extension pole, spare covers, trim pad, and the buffer screens and pads). An average floor takes about 2 gallons a coat. We cover your first 3 buffer rentals, and you buy your own once the jobs pay for it. Everything ships to your door before your first job.
Which floors can I recoat?
Solid hardwood, engineered, factory-prefinished and LVP. On LVP you scuff it lightly with a fine maroon pad and roll on one coat, and it fuses to the factory wear layer. Test a spot first. It does not go on laminate, sheet vinyl or painted floors.
How soon can the homeowner use the floor?
Walk on it in socks at 24 hours. Furniture back in about 3 days. Fully cured, rugs back, in about 7 days. The family stays home the whole time.
What if a floor can't be recoated?
Some floors need a full sand: stains soaked into the wood, finish worn completely through, deep gouges, warped boards. Homeowner photos and the estimate visit catch almost all of them. You walk away, or refer the job to a local refinisher. Not sure about a floor? Send photos to the flooring company we partner with, and they tell you the product and the steps.
Do I need a license?
It depends on your state. We check your state's licensing and insurance rules with you during onboarding, so you start the right way.
Customers
Who finds the customers?
We run Facebook and Instagram ads under your brand, with videos made for it, aimed at homeowners in your area. Your first 50 leads are on us, and they start once you pass the course quizzes. Every lead lands in your CRM and gets an instant text, and our team calls it and books the estimate onto your calendar. After your first 50, leads come bundled in when you reorder finish. While the ads ramp up, we teach you Quick Cash Plays to reach the people you already know.
Do I have to be good at sales?
It's a simple sale: homeowners pay about $1.50 to $3 a square foot, against $3 to $8 for a full sand and refinish, it takes about 3 hours, and the family stays home. The training gives you the exact words for the estimate.
Is there demand where I live?
We look at your area before your call: the number of owner-occupied homes, home values and the age of the housing. If the demand isn't there, we'll tell you.
